Ride The Island

The Mentawai Islands are a remote stretch of Islands strung across the swell barrage of the Indian Ocean. The equatorial Islands are a dream location for surfers possessing all but perfect reef bathymetry, sea floor level, and wavering winds. The Islands boldly claim to have “the best waves in the world” which is rarely disputed by surfers who have ridden there through the combination of en mass world class breaks and the flexibility when it comes to the varying swell and wind combinations.

The on season of the Islands lies between March to November with the biggest percentage of 5 star rated surf, biggest days and longest periods occurring during July and August. Much of the swell will be a S or SW swell at a regular size of 6-12ft potentially translating to triple overhead waves as the biggest wave but mostly averaging around head high to double overhead waves. During the off season the swells 5-6ft with 11-12 second periods making it much less spectacular but still pretty damn good for surfing. Selecting your surf charter boat can be a maker or a breaker of the trip, with the maintenance of the boats, charter operation overall and of course the experience of captain and crew. It is also recommended that you bring a quiver of 2-3 boards giving you spares if one breaks and also a choice in varying conditions, it is required as well that all you will need is brought as there are no surf shops on the island so no chance of getting any wax, fins, leases, etc.

Overall the Mentawai Islands are clearly must for surfers if the chance presents itself. The consistency of the conditions and the experience in itself should be enough to make anyone want to grab their board and head there now.

San Jose, Costa Rica (PRWEB) May 27, 2010

SurfVouher.com a niche travel agency in Costa Rica is now offering new Surfing Vacation packages with a twist.

Typical surf vacation packages offer a fixed schedule and include only the most recognized locations and not always “best” surfing destinations in Costa Rica. As a result, visitors can find themselves at beaches where the surfing conditions weren’t what they expected or just don’t meet their surfing style and expertise.

SurfVoucher.com is now offering the “Surf and Drive” vacation packages where tourists coming to Costa Rica have the option of visiting ALL the surfing spots in the country without having to worry about swells, crowds or sea conditions. With “Surf Vouchers”, Surfers are able to enjoy the most popular surf destinations in Costa Rica and have access to other locations off the beaten track for one single affordable fee.

For $ 389 travelers are greeted at the airport by a company representative and escorted to a pre-booked accommodation in the central valley. Once you arrive, guests are provided the SurfVoucher.com vacation guide and the “Surf Vouchers” for the amount of nights purchased, which can be used at all participating hotels as a form of payment.

On the following morning, the car rental company will deliver your pre-paid SUV (included in the $ 389) and explains their terms and drop off policies. From there surfers are free to drive to any of the 75 surfing destinations in Costa Rica, where they’ll find several participating hotels.

If the surfing conditions don’t meet the traveler expectations, the weather is awful or the beach is too crowded travelers are free to drive, at any time, to a different location and choose a different participating hotel, or take advantage of the SUV rental and sleep where the night life is active and take a daily trip to any of the other nearby Surfing Spots.

Surf Voucher S.A. is a travel agency in Costa Rica owned and managed by a young team of travel specialist and surf enthusiasts that have traveled and surfed the entire country, creating a vacation package specially designed to provide the most complete surfing experience in Costa Rica. Allowing all customers to have the freedom or choosing where and for how long to surf at each of the World recognized surfing spots in both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts.

Surfers all over the world know that surfing is more than a hobby or a sport — it’s a way of life. TheSurfingSite.com was created to unite these kindred spirits from every coast and share their collective knowledge with budding surfers.

While surfing is a mysterious and awe-inspiring feat, The Surfing Site makes it accessible to regular people, empowering those who only dream about it to actually go out and try it. You don’t have to be in perfect shape, or have any prior experience, to feel the thrill of gliding across the water.

The Surfing Site contains everything a beginning surfer needs to know about surfing in one easy-to-navigate web guide. In addition to providing information about surf travel, surf beaches and surf breaks all around the world, The Surfing Site offers “learn to surf” tutorials, equipment guides and surfing tips.

Travel and Destination Guides

The Surfing Site’s Surf Travel Guides target wave-rich areas throughout the world, and are focused on helping you plan, travel and experience some of the world’s top surfing destinations. They provide helpful tips on where to find the best local surf breaks, where to stay, where to eat, and any additional information that would be helpful to the surf traveler. The guides are written by real surfers who have actually been to the places that they are writing about, so this is a true insider’s guide to surf travel. The surf travel guides are accompanied by photos taken by the actual writers.

Surfing Spots Around the World

In the Surf Spot pages, sorted by geographical location, you’ll find valuable information on surf breaks and beaches. No matter where you’re going, you’ll be able to find out where to catch the best waves for your skill level. For example, if you’re traveling to Oahu, you can learn when and where to catch either the biggest waves, or the small, mellow waves that are suited to beginners. Surf Spot information also includes what type of board to bring or rent, air and water temperatures, whether you’ll run into crowds or hostile locals, and whether you need to watch out for sharks or sharp rocks.

Directory of Surf Schools and Camps

This website provides the largest Surf School Directory ever compiled, with a list of schools that numbers over 500 (and counting). If you’re looking to take surf lessons, there is no better place to find a school in your desired location.

Whether you are new to surfing and need lessons, or have some experience and want to improve your skills, you can find a surf school that’s right for you at The Surfing Site. If you operate a surf school or camp, be sure to visit the site and see if you are listed. There is no charge for a regular listing, but premium listings and banner ads are also available.

Surfing 101

In the Surfing 101 section of The Surfing Site, you’ll find out how to choose your first surfboard, how to transport your surfboard, how to read a surf report, what to wear when you go surfing, and much more. Beginners can browse “how-to” articles and instructional videos before venturing out for their first lesson.

Surf Videos and Photos

View video demonstrations on how to paddle out and pop up on your board, buy your first surfboard, wax your surfboard, transport your board, choose a wetsuit, and much more. Photo galleries sorted by location include surf videos and photos submitted by users of The Surfing Site. You can also browse galleries featuring some amazing Professional Surf Photography. If you’re a pro surf photographer, visit the Videos and Photos section to find out how you can get your own gallery on The Surfing Site.
